Mate in 2
White
White is way ahead and should win easily. There is even an opportunity for Mate in 2. Can you find it?

Solution

Open this section to see the full solution.

White can achieve checkmate in just two moves, but… the first move must get the Queen off the 8th rank, otherwise it is a Stalemate.  That move is:

White – Qa1

With that move, Stalemate is no longer a possibility. Black can (and must) move their White Bishop. The problem with that is no matter where they move, they are setting White up for a Discovered Check by moving the Rook out of the way. That being the case, Black settles for the best of bad options..

Black – Bd5+

Yay!? Not really. White has to resolve the Check. Unfortunately for Black, White can block the check and deliver Checkmate (by the Queen) with a single move…

White – Rg2#

So, what did you think of this?  Let us know in the Chat (but don’t give the answer away!).
