Welcome to the Prescott Chess Club!

Hello!  Whether you are a beginner just learning to play or an established tournament master, the Prescott Chess Club (PCC) welcomes anyone who enjoys the game!  Our ongoing mission is to grow and promote the game of chess in Prescott and the surrounding area.  To that end, we offer a mix of weekly and tournament play, and now this site where local players can find and communicate with each other.

Our History

A long time ago in galaxy far, far away….

Oops!   Wrong story.
Lets start over.
Cue the music…. Go!

A long time ago (2010) in a small mountain town who’s name rhymes with “bisquit”…

(Yeah, that’s better)  A gentleman named Tom Green started teaching a “Chess Fundamentals” class at Yavapai College.  That led to a Special Interest Group and organized play (in the cafeteria).  It wasn’t until 2014 that Tom formalized it all by joining U.S. Chess with the name “Prescott Chess Club” (#A6041583).

That move allowed Tom to organize and run USCF rated tournaments.  At first, it was just the “Quads”, but he eventually added Blitz and now runs a tournament every month.  In 2026, another gentleman, Robin Green (no relation to Tom) joined us and expanded our scope, adding weekly play at the Prescott Public Library and creating this site.

Our Current Status

As of Apr, 2026, our structure is pretty simple.  Robin runs Weekly Play at the library and Tom runs monthly rated Tournaments at Yavapai College.  Members may participate in either one or both events – whatever works best for them!

Prescott Chess Club Membership Requirements

The “Standard” Membership

Regular membership is easy!  And free!  All you need to do is say “I want in!”.  Okay, it also probably helps if you actually play chess, but even that is not a requirement; we have plenty of members that can help you learn the game!  We even provide the equipment.

For those of you that play a lot of tournaments, we also offer the…

The “Upgraded” Membership

Exactly the same as the “Standard” membership but it costs $20/year and gives you a $5 discount on any USCF Rated tournament we run.  If you play more than four events a year, it’s totally worth it and you can sign up for the Upgraded membership at any of our monthly tournaments.
